The following describes how to conduct the uplift test with the truss in the upright position. Similar procedures must be used if conducting the test in the inverted position. Methods for on-site completion and finishing of these elements are included in the approved design. Protection shall be provided at sharp corners where the anchoring system requires the use of external straps or cables. Protection shall also be provided to minimize damage to siding by the cable or strap.
Ground Anchor– any device approved by the DMV that is used to secure a manufactured home to the ground to resist wind forces. Ground anchors are rated by working load, which is the maximum load for design purposes. The ultimate load is the working or design load multiplied by the safety factor of 1.5. Site-built homes have stem walls on the outside, directly under the exterior walls.
Vinyl Tiles or Linoleum Flooring
You can buy a water level for $25 online or just hire a pro – it’s not as expensive or hard a job as you’d think. With that said, I do not like to install any kind of wood or laminate in kitchens or baths unless you put the waterproof barrier down firs. The possibility of water damage to your subfloor is too great for my comfort. If it were me, I would go with quality vinyl (it’s thicker) or tile. The Transition from laminate to tile looks a little better than vinyl because of the similar thickness. You may be able to get away with a composite material that is lighter.
Water closets shall be designed and manufactured according to approved or listed standards and shall be equipped with a water flushing device capable of adequately flushing and cleaning the bowl at each operation of the flushing mechanism. The “P” trap must be installed at the center fixture when three such fixtures are installed. Threads for screw pipe and fittings shall conform to the approved or listed standard.

Each vent pipe must extend through its flashing and terminate vertically. Vents that extend through the roof must extend undiminished in size, not less than 2 inches above the roof. Vent openings must be at least 3 feet away from any motor-driven air intake that opens into any habitable area. When two fixture traps located within the distance allowed from their vent have their trap arms connected separately at the same level into an approved double fitting, an individual vent pipe may serve as a common vent without any increase in size.
This receptacle is in addition to any receptacle that is part of a lighting fixture or appliance. The receptacle must not be enclosed within a bathroom cabinet or vanity. Circuit breaker means a device designed to open and close a circuit by nonautomatic means, and to open the circuit automatically on a predetermined overload of current without injury to itself when properly applied within its rating. Aluminum conductors, aluminum alloy conductors, and aluminum core conductors such as copper clad aluminum; are not acceptable for use in branch circuit wiring in manufactured homes. Floor registers or grilles shall resist without structural failure a 200 lb. Concentrated load on a 2-inch diameter disc applied to the most critical area of the exposed face of the register or grille.

A mechanical ventilation system, or mechanical portion thereof, must be provided with a manual control, and must be permitted to be provided with automatic timers or humidistats. Laundry area means an area containing or designed to contain a laundry tray, clothes washer and/or clothes dryer. Habitable room means a room or enclosed floor space arranged for living, eating, food preparation, or sleeping purposes not including bathrooms, foyers, hallways, and other accessory floor space.
Add-on sections of expandable manufactured homes shall have provisions for vertical ties at the exposed ends. Vertical ties or straps shall be positioned at studs. Where a vertical tie and a diagonal tie are located at the same place, both ties may be connected to a single anchor, provided that the anchor used is capable of carrying both loadings, simultaneously. The provisions of this section shall be followed and the support and anchoring systems shall be designed by a Registered Professional Engineer or Architect. Cutting of roof framework members for passage of electrical, plumbing or mechanical systems shall not be allowed except where substantiated by engineering analysis. Instructions are provided to remove carpet when appliances are installed.
Dead front (as applied to switches, circuit-breakers, switchboards, and distribution panelboard) means so designed, constructed, and installed that no current-carrying parts are normally exposed on the front. Means the circuit conductors between the final overcurrent device protecting the circuit and the outlet. A device not approved for branch circuit protection, such as a thermal cutout or motor overload protective device, is not considered as the overcurrent device protecting the circuit. Inches, as measured from the top surface of the floor decking to the bottom of the door and no more than one half of the free air area so provided shall be counted as return air area.
I always said we didn’t buy a Cadillac but a good solid Chevy. The standards have been upgraded since we bought ours, but it’s good to know Skyline was on the list of the better homes. I own a 2003 Cavco double wide that I purchased in 2013. I guess my biggest complaints about the home are the cheap windows, the fiberglass tub, the lack of storage space/closets, and large holes the manufacturer left around the water lines, etc. The holes have allowed critters to get into my home. I’m sure if you are the original purchaser some of those issues could be resolved with upgrades.
The net uplift roof load must not be reduced by the dead load of the roof structure for the purposes of engineering design or structural load testing. Alternatively, the manufacturer may provide, by design and home installation instructions, the maximum live and dead loads, and the applied loading locations, that the home is designed to resist from the carport, and other design limitations or restrictions. Walls adjacent to or enclosing a furnace or water heater and ceilings above them shall have an interior finish with a flame spread rating not exceeding 25. Hallways shall have a minimum horizontal dimension of 28 inches measured from the interior finished surface to the interior finished surface of the opposite wall. When appliances are installed in a laundry area, the measurement shall be from the front of the appliance to the opposite finished interior surface. When appliances are not installed and a laundry area is provided, the area shall have a minimum clear depth of 27 inches in addition to the 28 inches required for passage.
The manufacturer or installer may exceed these standards provided such deviation does not result in any inferior installation or defeat the purpose and intent of this standard. Carbon monoxide alarms must be installed in each home containing either a fuel burning appliance or designed by the home manufacturer to include an attached garage. Carbon monoxide alarms must be installed outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms and in accordance with the alarm manufacturer's installation instructions. Where a fuel-burning appliance is located within a bedroom or its attached bathroom, a carbon monoxide alarm must be installed within the bedroom and in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. Carbon monoxide alarms must be installed in conformance with NFPA 720 (incorporated by reference, see § 3280.4). These standards do not apply to exterior stairways that are built at the home site or stairways to basement areas that are not designed and built as part of a transportable section of a manufactured home.
My home, with the normal maintenance, should last forever. If you actually have better information, please share as the pricing on premanufactured homes is compelling. I am in Sunnyvale, CA and cost of construction has skyrocketed. We purchased a 2017 Buckeye Anniversary 3.0T from Oakwood Homes.
